The time has come, you’re finally about to go to college. You may or may not have spoken to your roommate but i’m sure you’ve picked out your bedding and gathered pictures/posters to cover the drab walls of your dorm room. If you’ve been reading my blog posts you’re hopefully brining you’re favorite childhood stuffed animal to keep you company during those not so picture perfect moments.
Now that you’ve got all of your “stuff” picked out, packed or shipped it’s time to start thinking about the “extras”. At sleep away camp I was always the kid with a sick candy stash so it was no surprise to anyone who knows me well that I had a food stash in my dorm room. It kept me fed, healthy and I was able to avoid many unwanted trips to the dining hall. I’ve compiled a dorm room food shopping list for all of you. While some of the items may seem interesting like...egg whites!! LOL I’ve explained it all in previous blog posts. If there is something you think I missed, would like me to add or have questions about just DM me on Instagram @sophieinthecity_ and i’ll get back to you all ASAP! XOX, Sophie Paige

I’m honestly not quite sure where I heard this, or if I made it up but it’s something I truly believe. As we all move out of our childhood homes for the first time, and start doing “real world things” on our own it’s normal to find yourself feeling overwhelmed and alone, I certainly did. My family was 3,000 miles away and in a different time zone. While there were physically people around me 24/7, it wasn’t the same as having “my people”.
It took me a little while to find my people, but once I did I knew they were totally worth the wait. I could go on to tell you all about how sorority recruitment didn’t go my way, and how I felt like my world was ending but we’ll get there in time. Once I found my people I knew I found my home away from home. I found my late night study buddies, shoulders to cry on, Netflix binge buddies, personal makeup artist, siSDTers to bring me pants when mine ripped, homework when I forgot it in my room and so much more. The friendships I’ve made are more valuable to me than I can put into worlds. I found “my people” and let me tell you, I would do anything for them and they feel the same. Some nights it was staying up late chatting about silly things, others it was working through tough situations or break ups and some nights it was staying up until 4:30am helping each other edit assignments. While I was the only one with 8am classes, those days usually ended up with me running on caffeine. My roommates came home from class to find me passed out on the couch at 4pm…and guess what?! I wouldn’t trade those days for anything. I found my people who could turn my frown upside down, stay with me through thick and thin, study with me for my exams as hard as they study for their own and most importantly, love me like their family. So, to all of my people out there who are nervous or apprehensive just know, you will find your people. College isn’t meant to be a solo journey, we have roommates and floor communities for a reason. Wether your roommate/floor community is or isn’t your cup of tea just remember your people are out there. You all chose to go to that given school for a reason, there is something that binds you all. Some of us just take longer to find our people than others and that’s ok. Don’t compare someones highlight reel to your behind the scenes, nothing is as good as it looks. Sending you all love and good health🤗🤍✨ XOX, Sophie Paige |
